Dr. Janet Burns, DO

When specialized Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) care is needed, contact Dr. Janet Burns.

She has over twenty years of experience in OMM, including teaching and research for thirteen years in U.S. medical schools.

She is often the doctor of last resort, helping patients who have been unable to obtain relief for various musculoskeletal disorders from institutions such as UCSF, Stanford, UCLA, UCSD, and the Mayo Clinic.

While she is best known for her work preventing and reversing scoliosis, her practice is primarily focused on optimizing brain health and helping people recover from Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

This is achieved by gently aligning the entire body, including the head. This allows better communication and circulation between all parts of the body thereby speeding healing.

Optimizing structure in order to optimize function is a central tenet of Osteopathic Medicine.

This is extremely important when it comes to the structure of the head. With 26 bones and over 100 joints, the head is a very complex design. Built to withstand incredible forces from outside, it also has to allow for slight movements between its highly specialized joints, called sutures.

Much like a house, your head allows for some expansion and contraction without coming apart. These physiologic movements, although small, are critical to proper function of your brain, nervous system and the rest of your body; allowing drainage of wastes and toxins, while circulating oxygen and nutrients.

These movements can become restricted due to direct head trauma, infection, scar tissue, and other injuries to the body. However they are not easily visualized by conventional medical imaging such as CT or MRI.

Osteopathic physicians are trained to use their hands to assess these small but vital cranial movements and to restore them in order for optimal healing to occur.

Restoring this natural structure/function relationship has helped patients suffering from:  Post-concussion syndromes -including visual disturbances, Migraines, Sinus congestion, Meniere's, ADHD, Parkinsonism, Lyme encephalopathy.

Dr. Burns is a 1995 graduate of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, OH.  She is Board certified in:

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine/Neuromusculoskeletal medicine since 2005, Osteopathic Family Practice since 1998, and became a founding Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine in 2000.

She taught OMM at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2002-2008, and at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, CA from 2008-2015.  She currently teaches OMM worldwide.

Dr. Burns currently sees patients at clinics in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego, as well as making house calls in these regions.

Hi, my name is Dr. Janet Burns. I'm an osteopathic physician who specializes in using my hands to diagnose and treat people with complex postural problems and chronic pain utilizing osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM).

Osteopathic physicians (D.O.’s) are trained to look at the whole person body, mind, and spirit. In over 20 years of medical practice, and after my own car accident, I've seen firsthand how painful memories, both physical and emotional, can manifest as chronic anxiety or depression, nightmares or flashbacks, sudden anger or irritability.

I'm dedicated to getting to the root cause of my patients’ pain and posture problems.  I am not content to have someone see me over and over again for the same issue. I have invested a lot of resources and time searching out other modalities to help my patients.  In 2000 I became one of the first 256 physicians in the United States certified in Holistic Medicine. For 13 years I taught and conducted research on OMM in US medical schools.

A series of accidents and injuries put me in the same position as many of my patients. As I continued my search for the newest and best treatments I was able to help even more of my patients, as well as myself.

I don't expect my patients to do anything I wouldn't do myself. I have first-hand experience with the life-changing benefits of Soul Link™. There is nothing else out there that works as quickly and completely to neutralize painful memories and help PTSD patients reclaim their lives.
